Taste of Inverclyde promotion goes down well

September 15th, 2011
Despite the atrocious weather over the past weekend, a number of restaurants reported good business as a result of the Taste of Inverclyde promotion. In particular, the Chartroom restaurant in Inverkip sold out of its lamb on the Saturday evening and had to get some Orkney lamb in to restock, and everyone who tasted the loin of venison at the Inverkip Hotel gave a glowing report. There were also lots of special dishes sold at Cafe Bongio, also in Inverkip.

Discover Inverclyde Director Chris Jewell said, ‘We are glad that, despite the weather, people were able to come out and try special dishes prepared for the Taste of Inverclyde weekend and Inverkip seems to have been a ‘hot spot’ for this. We also had a good entry for our special competition to win a meal for two at Cafe Continental in Gourock and the winner will be announced very shortly. Thanks are due to all the restaurants taking part.’

Pipes sound again for tourists in Cathcart Square

September 15th, 2011
Russell Young of Inverclyde Pipes and Drums will be out on the steps of the Wellpark Mid Kirk again this Friday at noon, just after the kirk’s clock has sounded, to play a selection of upbeat Scottish songs for the benefit of tourists and others passing though the square.

‘It’s a novel idea’ said organiser and Discover Inverclyde Director Chris Jewell, ‘but we hope this additional welcome to tourists, including those arriving on the Queen Mary 2 which is with us on Friday, will be enjoyed by those present and add a bit of colour to the square. Russell will be playing in full regalia and will be happy to pose for photographs with tourists who would like a photograph. He will be playing for about 20 minutes which will give the chance for many of the popular Scottish tunes to be heard and enjoyed.’
